The Tony Regalado Memorial Scholarship honors the extraordinary life of Tony Regalado—a proud Dexter, NM native whose life was deeply and passionately rooted in athletics.

From a young age, Tony exemplified a commitment to sports that extended far beyond the field. He was the only athlete in Dexter history to earn state championship rings in football (1997), baseball (1998), and basketball (2014), and was named to numerous All-State and All-District teams for football and baseball. He then attended college, pitching for the baseball team at New Mexico Military Institute. His unmatched talent, leadership, and work ethic defined him as a student-athlete and as a person.

Tony’s devotion to athletics wasn’t limited to his own success—he found great joy in mentoring youth, coaching at Dexter Middle and High School, umpiring little league games, and supporting the next generation of athletes in his community. Tony’s life revolved around the joy of sport and the power of connection. 

He lived with heart, always putting others first, and remains an enduring example of sportsmanship, selflessness, and love for community. This scholarship is awarded to New Mexico student-athletes who embody the same dedication, character, and spirit that Tony carried with him every day.
